The Warren girls tennis team earned its second victory in as many days Thursday, cruising past the Central Tech Falcons, 5-0, at Betts Park.
With the win, the Lady Dragons are back above the .500 mark for the season now sporting a 4-3 record. Warren returns to the court Tuesday, hosting Villa Maria.
Lauren Beach, Corie Eckman and Cassie Johnson helped Warren to a singles sweep on Thursday. Beach won a competitive match with the Falcons' Oksana Omelchenko, winning the first set 6-4 and needing a tiebreak to win the second set and close out the match.
Eckman needed all three sets to dispose of Molly Adams. Eckman dropped the first set 4-6 before rallying to win the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-4. Johnson's victory at third singles was a relatively easy 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
"What a beautiful day to heat up the courts," said Warren coach Norm Dziendziel. "Lauren beat the heat and her opponent in a two-hour marathon. Cassie is having a great year at third singles. (She) is a steady, mentally tough player who makes her opponents earn every point."
The doubles duos of Tyler Dziendziel and Morgan Genberg and Kim Parroccini and Shoshanna Ochocki won their matches in straight sets. Dziendziel and Genberg beat Maryana Omelchenko and Citlany Morales 6-2, 6-1 and Parroccini and Ochocki downed Maddie Edara and Rachael Peoples, 6-4, 6-2.
"Our girls have had a long, tough week," said Warren assistant coach Jeff Bartsch. "It was great to see them perform at such a high level today. We were solid throughout the entire lineup. Corie Eckman elevated her level of play for a great comeback win at second singles."
