GIRLS TENNIS: Dragons edged by McDowell

September 12, 2012
The Times Observer

Warren won both doubles matches, but dropped the team match to McDowell, 3-2, on Tuesday at Betts Courts.

"McDowell is a traditional (District 10) powerhouse," said Warren coach Norm Dziendziel. "(Adrianna) Jeffress has a very high United States Tennis Association (USTA) national ranking. We were hoping for a breakout win from one of our three singles players to seal the match, but we'll have to wait until next time."

Lauren Beach fell to Jeffress is two sets at No. 1 singles, and Corrie Eckman and Cassie Johnson lost at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

Warren’s Lauren Beach returns a serve from a McDowell opponent during Tuesday’s girls tennis match at Betts Park.

"Our doubles teams broke out of their shell today and started playing aggressive Warren-style doubles," said Warren assistant coach Jeff Bartsch. "Our doubles teams got us to 2-2 in the match but, unfortunately, McDowell came up with the singles sweep to win the match, 3-2."

Tyler Dziendziel and Morgan Genberg teamed at No. 1 doubles for a 6-3, 6-0 win, and Warren teammates Shoshanna Ochocki and Kim Parroccini won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.
