The Over 30 Modified Softball League playoffs got started on Tuesday - after last week's rainouts - and Accent Staffing, Midtown Motors, Meridien Hardwood and Buckhorn are moving on to Thursday's semifinals after wins on Tuesday in the single-elimination A and B Division games at Betts Park.
Don Watts was 3-for-4 and is 11-for-12 over his last three games, Jim Newton was 3-for-3 and Mark Garrett and Brian Bennett had two hits each for Accent Staffing in a 7-1 win over Bullpen in the A Division. Bennett scattered seven hits in the win.
Cory Darr had a home run and two doubles and Don Stitt a triple and two doubles to lead Buckhorn to a 13-6 B Division playoff win over Club Buck.
Drew Wilcox, Dustin Wilcox, Neal Kent, Barry Klenowski and Andrew Harrington all had three hits in Meridien Hardwood's 25-hit attack during a 22-9 victory over American Legion in the B Division playoffs. Meridien next plays Freddie's at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Meridien pushed eight runners across the plate in the first to build an 8-0 lead and scored at least three runs in all four of its at-bats. Jeff Young tripled, Dustin Wilcox had two doubles and Drew Wilcox, Klenowski, Pete Smith, Harrington and Scott Fisher all doubled once for the winners.
Tim Prelog had a home run and Steve Edinger a triple in defeat for Legion.
Midtown Motors eliminated Blue Ribbon Rentals in a second A Division playoff. Adam Eggleston had a two-run homer, Sam Zembardo was 3-for-3 with a double and Dan Zamborik pitched a three-hitter for the winners. Bob Slocum doubled in defeat for Blue Ribbon.
