Local soldier honored

September 11, 2012
The Times Observer

Home on leave from a deployment to Africa, U.S. Navy SEABEE Jacqui S. Shaw recently got to meet the students at the Roland Park Elementary Middle School in Baltimore, Md., where she is their "Adopted Soldier." The students began writing to Jacqui when her cousin, Connor Hamm, a student at the school, was in kindergarten. They continued their letter writing through first grade and just began second grade a few weeks ago. In front of a group of four classes of excited second graders, Jacqui answered questions posed by the students for 30 minutes. The students and teachers rose and applauded their soldier at the end of the assembly. Jacqui, a graduate of the Sheffield Area High School and the daughter of Keith Shaw and Ann-Marie Wood, is stationed in Port Hueneme, California, and is a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom proudly serving her country in Afghanistan. She is pictured with her cousin Connor.
