‘Take a Walk on the Wilder Side’ at the Wilder Museum

September 8, 2012
The Times Observer

Men of all ages are invited to take a "Walk on the Wilder Side," a men's (women are invited too) fundraiser held at the Wilder Museum of Warren County History on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 51 Erie Ave., Irvine.

This fascinating evening will feature close up examination of the Joseph DeFrees Antique Gun Collection which contains a vast array of firearms from different eras such as single shot percussion French dueling pistols, a flint lock Blunderbuss, Winchester rifles, Parlor Guns, single and double barrel shotguns, revolvers, and much more. For any man with an interest in firearms, it's an occasion not to be missed.

Bob Green will offer a clinic instructing visitors how to care for, clean and preserve firearms. Rodger Shattuck and Skip Trumbull will offer firing demonstrations of flintlock and muzzle loaders with blank ammunition and guests will have an opportunity to participate.

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of pioneer aviation in Warren County, Fred Maier has built a replica of a Curtiss Pusher bi-plane, a type of plane that was flown from the Warren Airport, now Betts Park, in 1912.

Several other new items of interest at the museum include a Warren Bell Telephone display, Warren County winter activities of the 19th and 20th centuries such as sleighing, ice skating and skiing, and an updated Railroad display with stunning photographs of now vanished county depots and trains as well as railroad memorabilia.

Sub sandwiches, German potato salad, desserts and beverages will be included in this eventful evening. Sandwiches and beverages have been generously donated by Subway Restaurants, Thornes Bi-Lo, Warren Shurfine and Crescent Beer Distributors.

For reservations, call 723-1795. All proceeds raised will help benefit the Wilder Museum of Warren County History.
