POTTSVILLE - Jeff Zaffino is on fire.
The Warren-native won Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) East Region Strike Zone Senior Open here on Sunday for a $1,500 purse.
The win was Zaffino's fourth regional win in 2012 - the most wins he's had in any year - and his 20th career regional victory.
His weekend started out slowly during an eight-game qualifier on Saturday at Strike Zone in Pottsville.
"I changed balls and moved my feet (on the lanes), getting in the right spot," he said.
A 280 game in his fourth game changed things and he ended up 10th out of 59 entrants with 1,777 pins. The top 16 qualified for the match play rounds.
Zaffino defeated the No. 2 seed, John Chapman, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, 216-209 and 214-194, to advance to the round of eight.
From there, it became a series of best-of-one, head-to-head matchups. Zaffino defeated George Tignor of Winchendon, Mass., 222-193, to make the finals.
He held off Bob Caruso, Dayton, N.J., 205-193, in the final.
Zaffino won his 19th career PBA regional championship August 13 at the Central Region Boss Snow Plows/Track Open in Fishers, Ind.
Zaffino, 52, last won on the senior regional tour in April in the PBA Central Region Fourth Annual Victory Lanes Senior Open in Galion, Ohio.
