August 31, 2012
The Times Observer

ERIE - Warren narrowly missed out on a second-place finish, ending up five shots back of runner-up Meadville in a Region 3 megamatch Thursday in Erie.

Both teams - as well as fourth-place Strong Vincent - were well off the pace of McDowell who won the match with a score of 182. Meadville finished with 204, Warren carded a 209 and Strong Vincent finished with a 297.

Morgan Smith and Megan Smoulder shared the top spot for Warren as the duo both finished with scores of 47. Libby Hammond was next with a 56, Abby Cromwell finished with a 59 and Clancy Fyock delivered a 62.

"Today's match was another third, but we showed real signs on progress," said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. "Meggie and Morgan both shot solid in the 40's. We had great improvement from Abby Cromwell and Libby Hammond as both bettered their scores from last week by over 10 strokes."

The Lady Dragons - currently third in the Region 3 standings - get back on the course Tuesday when they travel to the home course of Strong Vincent.
