WILLIAMSPORT - Jamestown took advantage of four Williamsport errors and snapped a three-game losing streak, salvaging the final game of a three-game set with a 4-3 victory at Bowman Field.
The Jammers (29-38) scored single runs in each of the opening three innings. Michael Main and Viosergy Rosa collected first-inning singles and Main was forced home on Matt Jeungel's RBI groundout. The Crosscutters answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to tie things at 1-1.
Jamestown's Avery Romero led off the second inning with a walk and moved up 90 feet on a Williamsport wild pitch. Moments later, Kentrell Dewitt smacked an RBI double and Jamestown took a 2-1 edge. Again, the Crosscutters answered with a single run in the bottom of the second and the game was tied at 2-2.
The tie was shortlived as newcomer Kolby Copeland singled and quickly attempted to steal second. A throwing error on the catcher and an error on the centerfield allowed Copeland the time to score on the play and Jamestown led, 3-2.
This time, the lead would hold up for good and the Jammers added a needed insurance run in the fifth. Copeland reached on a single and later scored on a single by Romero. While Williamsport would get a third run on a passed ball in the eighth, the tying run would never cross the plate and the Jammers recorded their 29th win of the season.
Copeland, Rosa and Romero combined for six of Jamestown's eight hits. Main and Dewitt also had hits. Ramon Del Orbe improved to 3-5 on the season with seven effective innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and registered seven strikeouts. Miguel Fermin pitched the eighth and ninth innings for his first save.
The Jammers are back in action Thursday, hosting a doubleheader against the State College Spikes at Diethrick Park.
