Lots of red
Alumni Homecoming committee member Sandy Silvis is encouraging Youngsville residents to join the effort to “Paint the Town Red” for the September Homecoming weekend. Red posters, balloons, and ribbons will be displayed throughout Youngsville.
The second annual Canoe/Kayak Poker Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 (rain date Sunday, Sept. 9) sponsored by the Youngsville Recreation Committee. All proceeds to benefit the baseball field improvement project. The run starts at Kinzua Dam between 9 a.m. and noon and will end at Betts Park at 4 p.m. Pre-registration is $15, $20 day of the event.

Bluegrass Gospel
The "Farm Hands" Bluegrass Gospel Quartet will perform at the Free Methodist Church on E. Main Street on Saturday Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
The group has received many awards, and has played at the Grand Ole Opry. Come out for a night of fellowship and worship! A free will offering will be received for the band.
Golf Scramble
The Youngsville Wrestling Boosters are still accepting team registrations and event sponsors for the annual golf scramble to be held on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
Team fees are $240 per team; foursomes required. This event will help fund the Youngsville wrestling 2012-2013 season. To sign up or for more information, call 563-1606 or 688-6978.

If you would like to explore questions like these, we'd like to help you! The Youngsville Evangelical United Methodist Church invites you to join us Sunday evenings beginning Sept. 16. We'll even start with dinner at 6 p.m! We'll also have a Men's Study working through former Indianapolis Colts' coach Tony Dungy's book Quiet Strength; a Women's Group studying Beth Moore's To Live is Christ, and a small group focusing on Marriage & Parenting. Child care is also provided.

Pre-game Dinners
The Youngsville Girls' Basketball Boosters will be hosting pre-game dinners every Friday before the home football games. These dinners will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church parish hall from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the nights of the home football games.
The cost is by donation. Come and support the girls basketball boosters. Those attending the dinners may leave their car at the church during the game if they would like to.
The dinner menu is as follows: Sept. 7 is sloppy joes, Sept. 14 is BBQ ham sandwiches, Oct 5 is goulash, Oct 19 is chicken and biscuits, and Nov. 2 is chili. Each dinner will be served with at least one side and a drink.
Kayak Raffle
Youngsville Recreation Committee is raffling off a new 9-foot, 8-inch, sit-in, Emotion kayak to help support baseball field improvements in Youngsville. Tickets are on sale now at the Youngsville Borough office and Wiggers Stove and Canoe Sales on Route 6 for $1/ticket.
The drawing will be held Sept. 29. Kayak provided courtesy of Wiggers and the Youngsville Borough Recreation Commission.

Homecoming Reminder
The committee for the 2012 Alumni Homecoming is asking Youngsville residents to help 'Paint the Town Red', starting on Wednesday, Sept. 12 with ribbons and balloons on porches, trees, cars, anywhere visible to make people take notice to the spirit Youngsville embraces.
Local businesses will be supporting homecoming weekend with 'alumni specials'. There will be a trail hike at the Kinzua Dam rock quarry on Friday, Sept.14. Those interested in participating should plan on meeting at the American Legion in Youngsville at 9 a.m. to car pool to the area. The schedule for the 2012 YHS Alumni Homecoming starts on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. with the Alumni Parade (gather at the American Legion parking lot, Highland Avenue by 5:45 p.m.) and Bonfire at YHS.
Friday, Sept. 14, 5:30 Tour of YHS (side entrance), 7 p.m. Homecoming Football game at Mike Shine Field. Stop at the Alumni tent to update your contact information.
Saturday, Sept. 15, Alumni Breakfast at Richard's Restaurant at 9 a.m. All alumni and guests are welcome and will order from the menu. The Alumni Dinner at the YVFD will start at 5:30 until 7 p.m. for $10 per person (buffet includes ham, meatballs, rigatoni, scalloped potatoes, green beans, pistachio salad, tossed salad, veggie tray, rolls, dessert, coffee, punch). Alumni Dance follows dinner for $10 per person and served from 8 to midnight with band "Necessary Experience". A great time to mingle with other alumni and faculty from YHS.

Successful Cornfest
John Shaughnesy, chairman of the 2012 Cornfest, offers his thanks to every single person who helped make Cornfest an enormous success. Shaughnesy said, "Couldna done it without y'all."
The committee would appreciate any input about the Cornfest event. Shaughnesy requests, "Please send any comments, suggestions, questions, great thought, or words of wisdom to my email address, jsshoughnesy@atlanticbb.net." He is also looking for a few missing Cornfest signs. If you happen to have one or more, lying around the house or garage, call him at 779-1807.
Correction
Members of Youngsville Council 13006, Knights of Columbus received their Third Degree held at St. Joseph Church in Warren on Aug. 19. Bruce Williams' name was inadvertently left out of the news article. He also received the Third Degree.
Corn Maze
The Corn Maze is such a success for Cornfest that we want to offer it throughout the Fall season. It will be open Saturdays in September and October for day and haunted evening challenges. The tentative schedule will be Sept. 22, 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27. The Youngsville Sports Booster groups are invited to take a Saturday evening for their fund raising. Cornfest Winners
Parade Float winners for the three divisions were: Business - Youngsville Agway/Home and Garden received First Place, Youngsville Borough received Second Place, and Northwest Saving Bank received Third. Non-profit - First Place went to the Pittsfield Community Playground and Second Place to the Rouse. Church - First Place went to First United Methodist, and Second Place to St. Luke. The Pittsfield Community Playground also won the People's Choice Award.
The community churches and businesses always help create sought-after baskets for the raffle each year. This year's winners were: Mary Grunden, Diane Bower, Cheryl Denny, Jetta Bishop, Debbie Larkin, Katie Kramer, and Kathy Frucella. The Hula Hoop contest was entertaining and fun for winners and viewers. Names were written on the registration sheet by the young participants, so please excuse any misspelling or complete name errors. Age group 6 and under: Cadence Mead and Vanessa Romanosky. Ages 7 and 8: Allison (last name missing) and Kristen Vogt. Ages 9 and 10: Kamryn Weissinger and Patricia Bortz. Ages 11 to 14: Gwen Darling and Dawson Whipple. Age 16: Mallory Eastman and Michelle Johnson.
The weather cooperated for one of the best Car Show 'Cruisin' at the Cornfest' events ever. A special thank you and appreciation to Paula Confer and her family for all their year-long work to bring together sponsors, cars, and viewers. The Paul T. The Power Wheels took to the road with children from 15 months to 6 years of age. They are all winners, racing for all they were worth: Jaydee Wilcox, Keaton Destro, Anna and Danik Bossart, Kaileigh Gorton, Alannah Garza, Parker Trask, Arielle Birchard, Tyler Blakeslee, Dinzel Fitzgerald, Easton Fitzgerald, and James Crawford.
The Corn Maze was a real blessing this year, thanks to the hard work of so many volunteers. Sure beats the 'cardboard' Corn Maze of 2011. There were many single and team racers, many with the same speed, some repeated for better scores, all-in-all, times ranged from 9 minutes to one hour and 12 minutes.

Hometown Christmas
Cornfest is over, Fall is on our heels, and in a blink of an eye it will be Christmas.
The Youngsville Hometown Christmas is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. We usually have a chilly night and two hours is plenty for outside vendors and our live entertainment. The ROY group was asked to bring back the Thursday night tradition with the parade, music, cookie and ornament decorating, baked goods, vendors, (great opportunity for churches and sports boosters to do some fundraising), and of course a visit with Santa, all in downtown Youngsville.
The ROY Promotion and Organization committees will be putting together the activities for that evening. There is a vendor form on the website www.revitalizationofyoungsvillepa.blogspot.com for retail only vendors (ex. - Scentsy, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef), all others can register with me at no cost. Hopefully we will have the traditional parade with music, floats, and the live nativity. It would be nice to have groups in the store fronts decorating and giving out cookies and holiday ornaments. Carolers and music by the local groups is always a special touch to the evening. It's never to soon to start planning a great evening in Youngsville.
