Down nine runs in the sixth inning, Bullpen was staring a ten-run rule loss directly in the face.
Instead, it scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth and added the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh for a thrilling 15-14 victory over Midtown Motors in Over 30 Modified Softball League play Tuesday at Betts Park.
After scoring six times in the top of the sixth, Midtown built a 14-5 lead and was cruising toward the finish line. Bullpen responded with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth before shutting down Midtown in the top of the seventh.
Bullpen's Jared Paul - who was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a homer during the game - singled to start the bottom of the seventh and scored the winning run on Jim Morrison's RBI double. Morrison finished with three hits of his own and John Paul collected two hits, including a triple.
In other action, Crescent Beer finished first in the regular season of the Over 30 Modified Softball League with a 15-1 record after a six-inning win on Tuesday over Blue Ribbon Rentals.
Crescent Beer - looking for its fifth straight A Division title - scored in every inning of an 11-1 win at Betts Park.
Jeff Berdine had three hits, and Rick Eaton, Eric Rosequist, Brian Haines and Todd Mineweaser had two hits each for Crescent.
The Over 30 playoffs begin on Tuesday.
Tom Dean homered and Cory Darr added two doubles in Buckhorn's 15-11 win over Club Buck. Bob Mika was 3-for-4 for Club Buck in the loss.
Scott Chase and Tim Munksgard each homered and Mangione Beverage needed just five innings to dispose of Accent Staffing, 12-2. Munksgard, Jake Tkach and Randy Chase all collected three hits for the winners. Don Watts was 2-for-2 in defeat for Accent.
Meridien Hardwood improved to 7-9 with an 8-5 victory over American Legion. With Meridien down 4-3 in the top of the sixth, Neal Kent hit a go-ahead two-run single scoring Dustin Wilcox and Drew Wilcox. With two outs in the same inning, Ed Smith delivered a key three-run double to help seal the win.
Both Wilcox brothers finished with three hits. For Legion, Tim Prelog hit a three-run homer for one of his two hits and Dave Bancroft also had two hits in a losing cause.
Kwik Fill won its sixth straight game, 15-12, over Freddie's in a battle of two of the B Division's top teams to end the regular season.
Rick Rohlin was 4-for-4 and Joe Hennessey and Rich Zdarko homered for Kwik Fill (9-7).
Bill Rook and Marty Swanson each homered for Freddie's (9-7) in the loss.
