Leslie E. Slocum, 63, 19 Thomas Avenue, North Warren, died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at his home.

Les was born in Franklin on May 29, 1949, a son of Dorothy Shaffstall Slocum (Rouse Home) and the late William L. Slocum, Sr. He graduated from Youngsville High School in 1968. He retired from Osram Sylvania in 2007, after 38 years of service. He was involved in Riverside Lanes bowling for many years, was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and loved movies. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, David Slocum, Warren; a daughter, Darla Roberts, North Warren; a stepdaughter, Judith Lindell, Warren; a stepson, Donald Carlson, North Carolina; honorary family members, Thomas Burke, Shippensburg; and Ashley Rutter, Edinboro; brothers, William Slocum, Jr., Youngsville; and Roger Slocum, Tomball, TX; three grandchildren, Chalaine Snyder , Pittsburgh, Trenton and Alexis Roberts, North Warren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra J. Slocum, whom he married on June 8, 1984.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 31st at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St., in Youngsville at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Anette Gerber, pastor of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Youngsville officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department. Condolences to the family may be made at www.nelsonfuneralhome.net.
