STATE COLLEGE - After shutting out the State College Spikes on Friday, the Jamestown Jammers were shut out in more ways than one during the weekend.
First, the Spikes handed Jamestown (28-36) a 5-0 setback Saturday in State College. Then, on Sunday, Mother Nature washed out the planned series finale between the two New York-Penn League Pinckney Division clubs.
The Jammers return to action Monday at Williamsport, beginning a three-game set with the Crosscutters. Sunday's postponed game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Thursday at Diethrick Park.
On Saturday, Jamestown managed just five hits in a 5-0 loss. The Spikes scored all five of their runs in the opening two innings off Jammers starter Drew Steckenrider. D.J. Crumlich hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the first and State College would add four more runs in the second.
The first tally scored on a Jodaneli Carvajal RBI single, two more runs scored on Samuel Gonzalez's single and the last run of the inning scored on Crumlich's groundout.
Jamestown's Cody Keefer was the only Jamestown player to record a hit - with two singles - until back-to-back singles from Michael Vaughn and Pedro Mendoza in the seventh inning. Keefer finished with two hits and Sharif Othman also had a single in the loss.
