Jammers combine for shutout

August 25, 2012
The Times Observer

STATE COLLEGE - For the second straight night, the Jamestown Jammers got an outstanding effort from a starting pitcher and the result was a brisk 1-0 victory over the State College Spikes.

Mason Hope allowed just two hits in his seven innings of work as the Jammers (28-35) needed just one hour and 49 minutes to win for the second time in as many days. Hope struck out nine and reliever Jheyson Manzueta earned his first save after pitching two innings and allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.

Jamestown will look to make it three straight wins Saturday when they again visit the Spikes.

Offense wasn't the name of the game Friday and Jamestown needed just one run on six hits to record the win. Pedro Mendoza and Anthony Gomez had two hits apiece and Cody Keefer and Sharif Othman chipped in one a piece.

The team's lone run was scored in the fourth after Keefer led off with a double, moved to third on Gomez's sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly from Viosergy Rosa.

Hope and Manzueta made things stand up from there, giving the Jammers their first back-to-back wins since August 12-15.
