Michael "Mike" Stanko, 96, passed into the next life Friday, August 24, 2012, at 12:48 a.m. in Warren General Hospital, following an extended illness after falling at home.
He was born October 27, 1915 to the late George and Mary Fejedelem Stanko.
Mike was a lifelong Sheffield resident and member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church. During WWII, he served in the Army and was a member of the Americal Division. Returning home, he married Jo Ann O'Sullivan on August 30, 1947 who preceded him in death. Mike retired from New Process Company after many years service as a custodian.

He is survived by a daughter Diane and her husband Charles "Dick" Bennett, Olean, NY; a sister, Mary Kunselman, Ca.; a brother Nicholas Stanko, Warren; and several nieces and nephews including Alicia Madigan whose care allowed Mike to stay at home.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mike was preceded in death by a sister Irene Cowan and four brothers, George, John, Paul, and Andrew Stanko.
A Divine Liturgy will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Roy Schubert, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends will be received Monday, August 27, 2012 from 1:005:00 p.m. at the BordenLloyd Funeral Home where Paristas will be held at 4:30pm.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael's Church or American Cancer Society.
