Jammers salvage split

August 24, 2012
The Times Observer

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Ramon Del Orbe pitched seven strong innings and Jamestown salvaged a four-game split with the Williamsport Crosscutters with a 5-2 victory Thursday at Diethrick Park.

The Crosscutters actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third as Roman Quinn brought home a pair with an RBI double. Jamestown battled back nicely, however, adding four runs of its own in the bottom of the inning.

Yeison Hernandez led off the inning with a single and moved to second on Michael Main's base hit. Williamsport appeared to have an inning-ending double play during the next at-bat, but the ball was dropped at first allowing the inning to continue.

The Jammers (27-35) made the Crosscutters pay for the mistake, adding an Anthony Gomez single, two-run double by Viosergy Rosa and RBI double from Michael Vaughn before the inning was complete.

Leading 4-2, Jamestown added a fifth run in the fourth when Juancito Martinez came home on a single by Main.

Del Orbe cruised through the remainder of his seven innings, allowing just the two runs on four hits while striking out six. Frankie Reed struck out three in two perfect innings of relief to earn his second save of the season.

Main, Gomez and Rosa all had two hits each to lead Jamestown's offense.

Jamestown returns to the road on Friday when they visit State College.
