Freddie's Bar & Grill got a huge B Division win over Buckhorn, 15-5, on Thursday in a make-up game in the Over 30 Modified Softball League at Betts Park.
Rick Wagner was 4-for-4 with a double and triple, and Bob Boyer and Tim Day had three hits each, for first-place Freddie's (9-6).
Drew Wilcox, Jerry VanOrd and Rick Eaton had three hits each for the A Division's first-place team, Crescent Beer, in a 15-5 win over American Legion.
Crescent improves to 14-1 with one final regular-season game on Tuesday before the playoffs start.
Shawn Ristau and Brian Bennett were each 3-for-4, and Don Watts, Jerry VanOrd and Jon Hoffman had two hits each, in Accent Staffing's 8-4 win over Blue Ribbon Rentals. Bennett didn't allow a hit until two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the pitching win.
VanOrd and a few others actually accomplished what Joel Youngblood once did in the Major Leagues - getting a hit for two different teams on the same day.
VanOrd had five hits over two games as a pick-up for Crescent Beer and then later for his regular Accent Staffing team.
On August 4, 1982, Youngblood became the only player in Major League history to get hits for two different teams in two different cities on the same day, for what it's worth.
On a night of make-up games, the Wilcox brothers helped Crescent Beer when and then helped Meridien Hardwood beat one of Crescent's closest A Division competitors, Midtown Motors, 15-5.
Dustin Wilcox was 4-for-4 with a home run and double for Meridien, and Neal Kent and Jeff Young each had three hits, including a home run and double. Drew Wilcox, Andrew Harrington and Ed Smith had two hits each in the win for Meridien.
Kwik Fill pitcher Jerry Nelson took a line drive to the chest, but remained in the game to hold Bullpen to eight hits in a 20-9 win.
Dave Smith, Rick Thorpe, Mark Hoden and Joe Hennessey were all 3-for-4 for Kwik Fill in the win. Hennessey, Hoden and Rick Rohlin homered as part of a 19-hit attack.
Glenn Morse had two nice catches in right field for Kwik Fill (8-7 in the B Division), which has won five games in a row after five losses in a row.
