The seventh annual Kinzua Heritage Arts and Music Festival will be held on Fox Hill Rd., Russell, Friday through Sunday, Aug. 24-26. Hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Artisans and craft persons - including basket weaving, blacksmithing, fabric arts, spinning, wool dye techniques, glass blowing, flute making, candle dipping, and hand crafted jewelry, textile crafts, pottery, rug weaving, wood carving, quilting, candle and soap making and more - will demonstrate daily.
Native American and old-time storytellers will entertain all ages. Music will be performed on the main stage throughout the event, including fiddlers, Native American, bluegrass, folk and old time. Speakers located throughout the festival grounds will make it easy to hear the music. Native American dancing demonstrations will express the heritage of our area.
Pioneer re-enactors will show their way of living in the harsh conditions of long ago. Black powder rifle demonstrations will thrill all ages. An antique tool/machinery display will return this year, and a children's game area and archery range will please the young folks attending.
Food vendors will have something for every taste.
Admission will be $5 for adults; children younger than 10 and parking will be free.
A charity auction will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the rear stage. Items will be donated by the artisans, and a beneficiary will be named before the auction. Last year's auction raised $1657 for the Disabled American Veterans.
On Saturday there will be a drum circle on the back stage for all who want to participate and an open stage for others who want to share their talents on the main stage.
