Jammers split with Williamsport

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - One extra-inning loss. One walk-off win.

The Jamestown Jammers (26-34) split a Tuesday doubleheader with the Williamsport Crosscutters, dropped the opener 3-1 in 11 innings and winning the nightcap, 4-3.

Jamestown again welcomes Williamsport to Diethrick Park at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.

In the opener, the two clubs exchanged runs in the second inning. The Crosscutters got an RBI groundout from Yan Olmo while the Jammers recorded the tying run on an error. The game would remain tied until the 11th inning of the scheduled seven-inning game.

The Jammers nearly had two walk-off wins on the night as Matt Juengel led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a triple. However, a strikeout and two consecutive groundouts left the potential winning run stranded 90 feet away.

In the top of the 11th, it was again Olmo that came through. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Olmo delivered a two-run double off Jammers reliever Sean Donatello that would prove to be the difference in the contest.

Game two was another close encounter. Jamestown scored first on an RBI single from Viosergy Rosa, but the Crosscutters scored the next three runs to take a two-run edge into the bottom of the third.

There, the Jammers cut the deficit in half on a sacrifice fly from Anthony Gomez. Two innings later, Michael Main tied the game with a solo blast to left.

The score was knotted at 3-3 until the last inning when the Jammers managed to plate the winning run. After a Main pop out, Cody Keefer singled and advanced all the way to third on a throwing error. Jesus Solorzano drew a walk before Rosa brought Keefer home with a single up the middle.

Keefer collected five hits in the twinbill, Main and Rosa had three each and Solorzano and Gomez finished with two. Miguel Ferman - a former catcher - earned his first pro win as a pitcher.
