Boosters to meet
The Warren Area High School Band Boosters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the band room at WAHS. Please note the date change. Warren Marching Band members and parents are encouraged to attend.
Blessing backpacks
Saron Lutheran Church, 148 W. Main St., Youngsville, will have a blessing of the backpacks and students this Sunday, Aug. 26, at the 9:10 a.m. service. All kids are invited to bring their backpacks with their school supplies to the service, where they and their backpacks will be blessed for the beginning of the new school year. All are welcome.
Ride the canals
Scenic Canal Fulton, Ohio, will be the destination of the Allegheny Community Center on Wednesday, Sept. 5, leaving the CRI parking lot at 7:30 a.m. The trip will feature a horsedrawn boat ride on the Ohio and Erie Canal on the St. Helena III. Participants will see Lock IV which remains as it was in the 1800s. On to the Century House for the choice of sirloin steak or chicken breast dinner, to Canal Fulton Glassworks and a tour of the Hot Glass Production. Finish with shopping in Canal Fulton's Historic District and a free ice cream cone. The entourage will return home at approximately 7:30 p.m. Call 723-3237 for information or reservations.
Win at bridge
The following were winners in Monday's duplicate bridge game at the YMCA: Hal Conarro and Mary Anne Gibson, first with 64; Magda Fanaritis and Doug Megill, second with 60; and Beth Howe and Carol Lake, third with 55.
Picnic Thursday
The Allegheny Community Center will have its annual hot dog and hamburger picnic at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Betts Park, by the tennis courts. Music will be provided by Ron Carrington and friends, Bob and Larry. Deadline to sign up is Aug. 22.
Class to lunch
Youngsville High School Class of 1958 will have lunch at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Youngsville American Legion.
Garden Walk
Penn State Extension Warren County Master Gardeners will present a "Walk and Talk" in the demonstration garden at Betts Park with Penn State Extension Master Gardener Celia Knapp at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. The public is invited.
Dance Sunday
The Slovenian Polka Boosters will dance from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at the St. Marys Moose Club. The Vagabonds of DuBois will provide music for all types of dancing. The public is invited. For information, call Paul Leofsky at 563-7516.
Music in the Park
"West of the Mark" will offer country music at this week's Music in the Park at Soldiers & Sailors Park, Hickory St. at Pennsylvania Ave. W., Warren, on Friday, Aug. 24, from 8 to 10 p.m., weather permitting. The series is sponsored by Northwest Savings Bank.
