Warren's girls golf team didn't have a great start to the season on Monday, but the Lady Dragons are only disappointed because they know they can do better, according to coach Tom Smoulder.
"They have been working very hard and have been playing much better during practice," Smoulder said of Warren's third place finish out of four teams in a Region 3 Megamatch at the Dragons' home course of Jackson Valley Golf Course.
"Megan (Smoulder) and Morgan (Smith) both improved by several strokes from last year's start at Jackson," said Smoulder. "However, they both have much better golf in them. My other three could have played much better. Yet, they made me proud by keeping their composure and salvaging a few respectable holes to go with their misfortunes."

Warren’s Morgan Smith watches her putt from the edge of the green during the first Region 3 golf match of the season on Monday morning at Jackson Valley Golf Club.
Morgan Smith's nine holes were actually right among the top scores from the region on Monday. She shot a 48, behind Megan Kaverman's 45, and 47 each from Ellen Eighmy and Julie Capotis. All three leaders are from McDowell, which topped the team scores in the opener at 188. The top four scores count for team scoring; Meadville was second at 215 and Warren third at 235.
Along with Smith's 48 and Megan Smoulder's 50, Katelyn Hecei shot a 67 for Warren, Libby Hammond 70, and Abby Cromwell 71.
"We will use this frustration to work hard so we can really bring it to the next match in Erie on the 30th (at Erie Golf Course)," said coach Smoulder.
