There is hardly a weekend that goes by in a Warren County Summer when there isn't something interesting or entertaining to do.
And, this weekend is no exception. What's special is that there are two events that have grown to draw thousands of people to Youngsville and to various softball fields in the Warren area.
We're talking, of course, about Youngsville's Cornfest and the 33rd Annual Industrial Softball Tournament. There's something for those who want to meander about, enjoying good music, good food and the possibility of getting lost in a corn maze, and something for those who want their weekend to have a sports theme.
Famous for its great food and entertainment, the Cornfest gets rolling this evening and runs through Sunday in downtown Youngsville. It needs that much time to pack in all there is to do, including live music, corn husking and corn hole games, enough buttered corn to keep even the biggest eater saying, "No mas!" and the ever-popular car and truck show.
The Industrial Softball Tournament isn't just a venue to play the game, but to hang out and enjoy the game, with play ranging from the surprisingly good to just good. It's all for the fun of it as men and women compete for trophies and sore muscles.
Betts Park becomes a block party as teams erect tents, set up barbecues and appear to compete for the number of coolers you can pack under a canopy.
As always, admission to both events is free and the rekindling of old friendships and the forging of new ones is at least half the draw.
