Football news

Youngsville senior Jordan Gurdak has been named to the 2012 WesternPAFootball.net Small School Preseason team as a defensive specialist. As a junior, Gurdak was a running back and linebacker for the undefeated regular season Region 2 champion Eagles.

Season starts

Youngsville's Cameron Daniels has qualified for the national meet after his performance in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2012 Niagara Long Course Swim Championships held July 27-29 at Ithaca College. Daniels was coached by Bradford's Ed Bahan.

Steve Gelotte and Urban Bires shared low gross of 37 and Denny Davis had low net of 28 in Blueberry Senior League play Monday at Blueberry Hill Golf Club. Pat Hultquist had second low gross of 38 and Bob Wolfe and Wayne Swanson shared third low gross of 39.

Randy Grant had second low net of 30, Albery Hawley had third low net of 31 and Glen Cook had fourth low net of 32.

Gelotte and Hultquist had two birdies each, Jerry Carr, Jon Carlson, Wolfe and Hawley all had one birdie each. Here are the team results from Monday's round:

The Conewango Valley Country Club Junior Club Championship placewinners were incorrectly identified as being from Jackson Valley in the photo caption headers on page B-4 in Monday's Times Observer.

Aaron Lanzel was the winner of the 13.1-mile run in the Open Relays division of the 7th Annual Kinzua Country Tango held Saturday, August 4, in Warren. Lanzel, an Eisenhower graduate now living in Annapolis, Md., finished in a time of one hour and 16 minutes. Abel Robinault was incorrectly listed as the winner in a time of one hour and 19 minutes.
