A patient is loaded into one of four medical evacuation helicopters that were dispatched to Warren County Sunday afternoon to handle patients involved in two motor vehicle accidents that occured within an hour of one another, one on Weiler Road and one on Scandia Road near Webbs Ferry. In addition to the helicopter pad at Warren General Hospital, landing zones were established at Betts Park and Emory Mahan Airport.
In the first accident, at 2:15 p.m., state police based at Warren reported that a 2000 Ford Explorer operated by a 17-year-old male was traveling north on Scandia Road about a half-mile south of Webbs Ferry in Elk Township, when it went out of control, traveled off the road and struck a large tree. The driver and two passengers were flown by helicopter to Hamot Hospital in Erie. Police did not identify the driver by name. The two passengers were Ronald G. Smith, 27, of Warren, and Alessandra Coricchia,18,of Warren. Police were assisted at the scene by Scandia Fire Department and Ambulance, Russell Fire Department and ambulancer, and Emergycare Ambulance.
Conewango Township Police report that at 3:14 p.m. a vehicle operated by Robert Thomas of 1104 Pennsylvania Ave. E. Apt. 1 went out of control while traveling south on Weiler Road and struck a tree in the front yard of 1940 Weiler Road. Thomas was flown to Erie for treatment for a head injury. His passenger, Justin Johnson, was treated at Warren General Hospital for a head injury. Police were assisted at the scene by Starbrick and Youngsville volunteer Fire Departments and Emergycare.
