Betts clinched the regular-season title in the Richard T. Betts Rec Modified Softball League on Wednesday by outslugging Craco, 10-6, at Betts Park.
Bouncing back from a loss to second-place Fralick Chiropractic the previous week, Betts scored 10 runs over the first four innings and held on for a 15-1 regular-season record. Fralick lost to Larry's Cantina, 11-5, early in the night to fall to 13-2.
Two wins on the night would have given Fralick the top seed in the double-elimination Rec playoffs, which begin next week.
Andy Hanks was 4-for-4 with his league-leading 10th home run and four RBI for Betts, and teammate Darren Cummings 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and five RBI.
Jeff McMeans and Rick Eaton combined to hold on for the win, despite Craco's 16 team hits. Joe Pellegrino had three hits, and Todd Rudolph, Ryan Irwin, Ron Thomas and Tyler Leichtenberger two hits each for Craco (8-8), which also advances to the six-team playoffs. Leichtenberger, Rudolph and Adam Paden all homered in the loss.
