Post 135 edged twice at Jr. Legion states

The Times Observer

SHILLINGTON -Warren Post 135's run in the Junior American Legion Baseball playoffs came to an end this weekend, but not without a fight.

After winning the Northwest Pennsylvania Junior Legion playoffs, and finishing third in the Western PA Youth Legion tournament in Punxsutawney, Warren went 0-2 on Saturday and Sunday at states in Shillington.

Leading 6-4, Warren gave up four runs in the sixth to host Shillington on Saturday to suffer an 8-7 loss at the PA Youth Legion Championships. Jimmy Vile started on the mound for Warren and pitched well for five innings before tiring. Shillington scored three times in the fifth and four times in the sixth off reliever Casey Vincent. It wouldn't be a one-run game without calls and plays going one way or the other, and they went against Post 135 on this day.

Mark Reiff doubled in the sixth and scored to cut the deficit to one, but that was as close as Warren got.

Derek Reagle was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI for Warren, Reiff 3-for-4 with a double, and Vincent 2-for-3 in the loss.

In another close loss, Warren lost on Sunday, 5-3, to Yardley-Morrisville. All five of Yardley's runs came in the second and third innings, and then Johnny White settled down on the mound. Vincent had a one-out single in the seventh inning but Warren didn't capitalize.

"We had our chances to win and just didn't," said Post 135 coach Jon Vincent, whose Junior Legion team went further than any other from Warren County. "I think it was a great experience. I'm really proud of their accomplishments this year. They played really well together. Their chemistry was real good."

Reagle was electric with the bat, going 13-for-20 over the Western Regional and state levels, and he was 4-for-6 with six RBI this weekend. Casey Vincent was also 4-for-6 in two games.
