JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Jamestown collected 10 hits on Thursday, but couldn't string enough together to score runs in a 4-2 loss to the Lowell Spinners in front of 1,448 New York-Penn Baseball League fans at Diethrick Park.
The series is now even at one game apiece and the rubber match of the three-game set will be held at 7:05 p.m. Friday in Jamestown.
Jamestown (20-23) got off to another good start Thursday, scoring the opening run of the game in the first inning. Juancito Martinez and Michael Main had back-to-back singles to start the inning and Martinez scored on Jesus Solorzano's sacrifice fly.
Main was caught stealing for the second out of the inning or he would've likely scored on a double by Viosergy Rosa.
With two outs in the second inning, the Spinners got a triple from Kendrick Perkins and RBI single from Jake Davies off Jammers starter Mason Hope to tie the game at 1-1. Lowell would add three runs in the third to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Matthew Gedman drew a bases loaded walk and two runners scored on a Matthew Marquis single - all before the first out was registered in the third.
While Lowell would be held scoreless over the final six innings, Jamestown would add only a solo homer by Anthony Gomez in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring at 4-2.
The Jammers lost despite out-hitting Lowell, 10-7. Martinez had three hits and Main, Solorzano, Rosa, Matt Juengel, Felix Munoz, Gomez and Sharif Othman all added one each. Hope allowed four runs on six hits in five innings and dropped to 1-3.
