JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Jamestown started its six-game homestand in fine fashion Wednesday, defeating the Lowell Spinners, 3-2, in front of 653 fans at Diethrick Park.
Jamestown received some instant offense in the first inning when slugger Jesus Solorzano smacked his team-high seventh homer of the season. The solo shot gave the Jammers (20-22) a 1-0 lead that would hold into the fourth inning.
Lowell tied the game in the top of the fourth when Aneury Tavarez delivered an RBI single off of Jamestown starter Ramon Del Orbe. The Jammers didn't let the game remain tied for long, adding a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Solorzano started the rally with a single and he scored on Viosergy Rosa's double. Rosa moved to third on Matt Jeungel's groundout and eventually scored on a two-out wild pitch.
The Jammers wouldn't get another hit until the top of the eighth when Sharif Othman led off with a double, but the 3-1 lead held until closer Nick Wittgren entered the game in the top of the ninth.
After getting the first two outs quickly, Wittgren allowed three straight Spinners singles, including an RBI hit from Mike Miller that made it 3-2. With the tying run on second, Wittgren forced Deven Marrero into a groundout to end the game.
Jamestown was a winner despite collecting only five hits. Solorzano had two of those and Rosa, Jeungel and Othman had one each. Del Orbe received a no decision after being lifted after the fourth. Jose Rodriguez earned the win by allowing just one Lowell base runner in four innings of work. Wittgren was credited with his 11th save - tied for most in the New York-Penn League.
