The recruitment process has begun for the sixth Leadership Warren County program.
The class of 2012-2013 will begin in September, and will undertake a curriculum centering on Warren County and the development of professional skills.
The program runs for nine months, meeting two afternoons per month, and examines county-related topics in detail. Classes center on topics such as the justice system, history and architecture, agriculture, health care, the education system and many others. Technical skills such as strategic planning, visioning, teamwork, fundraising and others are explored as well.
Mary Jo Zubrod, director of the program, said the course draws upon the wisdom and knowledge of the community for its effectiveness. Presenters are community members who have direct involvement in the topic being discussed. Industrial tours at the end of the term bring everything which has been learned into focus by showing how the local economy works. Tours for the most recent class have included Betts Industries, Blair Distribution Center, Superior Tire and others.
Barbara Tubbs, chairperson of the steering committee, said the program has proven its effectiveness. She said a poll has shown that community participation among program alumni has increased significantly. That increase in civic involvement, she said, is why the program was created.
Tuition for the course is $1,800 and is generally paid by the participants' employers. Some scholarship funds are available.
