Jr. legion

The Warren Post 135 Junior American Legion Baseball team captured the Northwest Regional title late Friday with a 10-0 victory over Franklin in Albion. With the victory, Post 135 (14-2) enters next weekend's Regional Tournament in Punxsutawney as the number one seed out of the Northwest. The Warren team will open with the second seed out of Westmoreland County on Saturday. The tournament is a five-day, double-elimination event with the top three teams advancing to the state tournament in Schillington.

On Friday, Warren jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when D.J. Fehlman walked and eventually came around to score on a Ryan Gustafson groundout. The flood gates were eventually opened in the fourth inning when Post 135 scored five times to take a 6-0 lead.

A Johnny White single was sandwiched in between walks by Mitch Dorunda and Fehlman to load the bases for Casey Vincent. Vincent promptly smacked a three-run triple that gave Post 135 some much needed breathing room. Vincent soon scored on a Gustafson RBI single and Gustafson raced home on a passed ball.

Post 135 ended the game via the ten-run rule in the sixth inning with four more runs. Gustafson led off with a double, Derek Reagle singled and a Jimmy Vile groundout scored Gustafson. Reagle next scored on a Dorunda single, Fehlman drew a bases loaded walk and Vincent put the final nail in the coffin with an RBI single that made it 10-0.

Vincent finished 4-for-5 with four RBI and Gustafson was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Kyle Hunt pitched an incredible game for the winners, allowing only four Franklin hits and striking out eight in six innings of work.
