Jr. legion

Warren Post 135's Junior American Legion Baseball League team advanced to the finals of the league's Northwestern Region Tournament with a 7-4 victory over Franklin on Wednesday. The win also qualified the team for next weekend's Regional Tournament in Punxsutawney.

Post 135 jumped out to an early lead in the first when D.J. Fehlman walked and scored on a Kyle Hunt single. The team pushed the lead to 4-0 in the second when Fehlman drew a bases loaded hit by pitch and Casey Vincent wrapped a two-run single.

Franklin put together four of its five hits in the third inning while tying the game at 4-4, but Post 135 responded by re-taking the lead in the fifth. Fehlman and Vincent walked and moved up a base on a wild pitch. Ryan Gustafson then put down a perfectly executed squeeze bunt to score Fehlman and Vincent later scored on a groundout.

Leading 6-4 and with Johnny White on third and Vincent on first, Post 135 tried a two-out delayed steal in the sixth inning. Vincent intentionally got caught in a rundown, allowing White to break for the plate. Vincent was tagged out, but not before White scored to make it 7-4.

Post 135 returns to action Friday against the winner of South County vs. Franklin. That game will be played at 8 p.m. Friday in Albion.

According to coach Jon Vincent, Gustafson made a pair of great plays in center, catching one fly ball while sliding on his knees and cutting another ball off in the gap before firing to second to gun down a runner.

Casey Vincent had three of the team's five hits and Hunt had two RBI.
