BATAVIA, N.Y. - A short road trip away from Diethrick Park was all the Jamestown Jammers needed to end a three-game losing streak as the Jammers downed the Batavia Muckdogs, 5-3, at Dwyer Stadium.
The win was much needed for Jamestown (13-15) whose offense had come up stagnant during a three-game sweep at the hands of the Tri-City ValleyCats.
Jamestown jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Anthony Gomez was able to race home on a throwing error by Batavia catcher Jesus Montero. The lead was pushed to 2-0 in the fourth when Viosergy Rosa singled and later scored on an RBI single from Sharif Othman.
The Muckdogs would score the next two runs of the game to tie the score at 2-2, but Jamestown broke out with a three-run sixth inning. Kentrell Dewitt smacked a two-run homer to put the Jammers back on top and Othman immediately followed with a solo homer to push the advantage to 5-2.
Jesus Solorzano and Othman each contributed two hits in the victory while Pedro Mendoza, Rosa, Gomez and Dewitt each finished with one hit. Frankie Reed won his second outing of the year, allowing just one run on one hit in two innings. Nick Wittgren tossed two perfect innings with four strikeouts for his eighth save.
The Jammers are scheduled to host Batavia Wednesday at Diethrick Park.
