Dear editor:
Since Northern Area School District merged with Warren County Schools there seems to have been one agenda on the minds of the WCSD close our schools. How many times in our history have we had the threat of losing our community identities because WCSD does not want to fund schools in our attendance area?
Most recently the communities were alive with talk of the charter school those in the northern attendance area had an overwhelming majority that supported the charter school. The application was flawed but one remaining fact still holds true we love our community schools and we want them opened all of them. Both communities love their elementary schools and both love Eisenhower despite all of its problems.
WCSD does not seem to understand our sentiments and have done everything in their power to close our schools. They want a K-12 school despite their own 2008 research that showed our communities overwhelmingly do not want that. They never seem to care what we want and apparently a majority doesn't matter anymore.
I believe that the time has come to break away from WCSD. I do not believe they have the best interests of our students or our communities. They are only concerned with cost cutting measures but they have never invested in our communities. I propose to my neighbors to recreate the Northern Area School District. Our tax dollars would be reinvested in our communities not Warren or Youngsville. Our tax dollars would be spent as we see fit on our children. Our children would know they we want them to be proud of their schools not fearful that their communities are falling apart. This will completely change the education our children receive but then again so will the K-12 school.
This would not be easy or quick. This will take time and effort from the entire community, but I believe we can do it. This is the ultimate investment in our communities and our futures.
