Firecracker Challenge 5K men’s winners
The 2012 4th of July Firecracker Challenge 5K and 10K running races were held last Wednesday in Warren. The top three finishers in the men’s 5K event were, from left, Jeremy Criswell (first place), Tim King (second place) and Jeff Ransom (third place).

Golf results

The teams of David Bortz and Greg Senyo, Rick Rohlin and Scott Pearson and Dan Knowlton and Gary Bailey all shared low gross of 36 in the Monday Night Scramble League at Cable Hollow Golf Club. Joe Bender and Ron Lemon currently lead the league with 59.5 points. Bortz and Senyo are second with 58 points and Rohlin and Pearson are third with 53.5 points.

Jim Fehlman and Bill Young had low gross of 39 and Bill Darling had low net of 30 in Youngsville Senior Golf League play Tuesday at Maplehurst Country Club. David Cassidy, Fehlman, Terry Jackson, Chuck Briggs, Dave Peck , Frank Suppa and Jim Rose had one birdie.

Kids clinic

The Jamestown Jammers will be holding a Kids Clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Diethrick Park. The camp is intended for kids aged 6-12. Registration will take place at 8:30 p.m.

The camp consists of instruction from Jammers players and coaches on the basics of hitting, fielding, pitching and more. After drills are completed, there will be a complimentary hot dog lunch.

5K/10K race results

The 2012 4th of July Firecracker Challenge 5K and 10K running events were held last Wednesday in Warren. Katie Spade was the overall winner of the women's 5K event with a run of 22:04 and Jeremy Criswell won the men's 5K event, finishing in 21:15.

In the 10K events, the women's race was won by Jody Shoup in 48:22 and the men's race was won by Quentin Brunst in 38:54.

Jr. Legion

Warren Post 135 defeated Albion, 13-3, on Tuesday in a Junior American Legion Baseball playoff game at Old Legion Field.

Post 135 had seven hits in a five-run first inning, including a two-run double from Kyle Hunt and an RBI triple by Mark Reiff. D.J. Fehlman, Casey Vincent, Derek Reagle, Collin DeLattre and Mitch Dorunda added hits in the frame. Fehlman finished 3-for-4 with a double and triple, and Reiff and Dorunda were each 2-for-3 with two RBI in the win.

Post 135 advances to play Thursday against the winner of Erie East and Millcreek. If it is Erie East, the game will be at Old Legion Field in North Warren.

Johnny White scattered seven hits and struck out seven over five innings for the win.
