DUBOIS - Warren kept things close early on in its 10-11-year-old all-star contest Monday at DuBois, but a close call at the plate didn't go the locals way and things came undone from there in a 13-1 loss.
Warren (1-1) is still alive in all-star competition and will next travel to Saint Marys for an elimination game on Wednesday.
Despite watching DuBois build a 3-0 lead, Warren had its fair share of chances early on. In each of the first two innings, Warren had two runners aboard and less than two outs, but were unable to push any runs across the dish.
The locals finally broke through in the third after Warren put together three of their four hits in the inning. Derek Knapp got on with a single and moved to third on Owen Balas' double. Austyn Cummings next delivered an RBI single to make it 3-1 and Nick Smelko soon came to the plate.
The first pitch to the plate was in the dirt and Balas broke for home from third. Despite appearing to reach home before the tag, Balas was called out and the momentum of the game quickly changed.
DuBois would go on to score 10 runs in the top of the fourth before setting Warren down in order in the bottom of the inning to close things out.
