Soccer results
A pair of Over 200 vs. Under 200 soccer matches for the Bicentennial Challenge Cup were played Sunday at War Memorial Field. In the 18th Annual playing of the matchup, the Young Guns and Old Boys played to a competitive 2-2 tie.
The Young Guns are a team made up of players from Warren and Eisenhower high schools and the Old Boys are a team of alumni from both schools, the YMCA, U-90 and the original Warren men's adult soccer team that played in the Interstate Soccer League in the late 1970's.
The Young Guns opened the scoring when Tyler Madigan netted a ball on a Christian Harrington assist. The Old Boys tied the game at 1-1 with Scott Schoenborn passing to Matt Decker for the tying goal. The Old Boys took the lead just after halftime on a Schoenborn header from a Tyler Zawacki corner kick. That lead held up until just seven minutes were left in the game when Andy Hajec scored on a pass from Madigan.
After the presentation of the Bicentennial Challenge Cup Trophy, a moment of silence was observed and the match was dedicated to Tim Strohmeyer, a former Warren soccer player who passed away on June 30.
The men's match was preceded by a women's match that saw the high school-aged girls top the alumni, 3-2. Katie Ishman had two goals and Morgan Danielson one goal for the winners. Kaitlyn Levesque and K.T. Lawson each scored for the Alumni.
