Dear editor:
On July 2, the Times Observer reported that the 296 support personnel at the Warren County School District took a vountary pay freeze for the 2012-2013 school year. While I commend them for doing that in these crucial times, what about the Administrative staff, which includes the Directors, Principals, Assistant Principals and the Administrative Supervisors? They will be getting a very nice raise in the 2012-2013 school year.
Here are the numbers that I came up with after reviewing Arthur Stewarts compensation plans printed off the school districts web site. The total salaries for the above listed people for 8/8/2011 was $2,609,770, not including the contracts of the Superintendent and the business finance director. According to Mr. Stewart, on the 1st pay of 2012-2013, they will receive a .875% increase on their base salary. On the 7th pay, they will receive a 1.75% increase. On the 14th pay, they will receive a 2.625% increase and on the 19th pay they will receive a 3.5% increase. Now, lets do the math.
Starting at $2,609,770
1st increase 22,835
New Total 2,632,605
2nd increase 46,071
New Total 2,678,675
3rd increase 70,315
New Total 2,748,990
4th increase 96,215
New Total 2,845,205
This equals a 9.02% increase at a total dollar amount of $235,435!!!
Just think of how many textbooks could be bought with that money. Shame on them for letting the support staff take a pay freeze while they all get a 9.02% pay raise.
Respectfully,
Cheryl A. Miles
Former Warren County Auditor
