The Warren County Historical Society is pleased to announce a $5,000 grant award from the Community Foundation of Warren County to fund the Summer Internship Program.
The Warren County Historical Society has conducted the summer intern program since 1998. This year's participants include Devon Gruver, Dane Kinesman, Hillary Anderson, Dana Elmquist and Amanda Beil. According to managing director Michelle Gray, "This is an exceptionally busy year for the organization. We are working to provide a more preservation friendly environment for the artifacts, images, textiles and documents. We are focusing special attention on the image collections which include the Gustav and Everett Borg images, the Everett Stoke aerial and portrait images, the Bairstow images and the McIntosh images, to name the larger collections. There are several smaller image collections housed within the archives as well. We will also be relocating some of the larger pieces of the artifact collection to provide more document storage space in the third floor archival area. These projects are necessary to properly preserve Warren County's precious history."
The historical society's intern program is perpetually funded by Robert and Silas Kopf through a Smithfield Trust Company account created by a fundraiser held in honor of their mother, Jane Walker Kopf, in 2007. John Mangus is a longtime contributor to the intern program. He is a past president of the historical society and a retired NASA solar physicist specializing in the field of space optics. He spent a large part of his career working on the optics for the Hubble Space Telescope and remains a consultant on the project to this day. There are several other donors that make this program possible, such as Conarro Family Foundation, American Legion Post 135, Kylander Oil, Inc., Jones Chevrolet Buick GMC, among many other very generous individuals.
