Body pulled from Allegheny River

July 3, 2012
The Times Observer

The body of a Warren woman was found in the Allegheny River in Pleasant Township on Monday afternoon.

State police are investigating the death of Sally Ann Engstrom, 36, but said it does not appear that foul play was involved.

Police responded to a call from a passing motorist at about 2:12 p.m. Monday and discovered Engstrom's body lying along the edge of the water on the east bank of the river just south of the Route 6 bridge that crosses the river between the Ludlow Street and Main Avenue exits.

State police were assisted at the scene by firefighters and a water rescue team from Glade Volunteer Fire Department and Warren County Coroner Jerry Borden.

Borden listed asphyxiation by drowning as the cause of death, adding, "We are awaiting a toxicology report."

Those results could take up to six weeks to return from NMS Labs in Willow Grove.
