JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Not even returning home to Diethrick Park could slow down the now seven-game losing skid for the Jamestown Jammers.
The losses continued to pile up for the locals during an 8-1 defeat at the hands of the Batavia Muckdogs on Friday. A week ago, the Jammers would a home game against these same Muckdogs to improve to 3-2.
They haven't won since.
Batavia jumped on top 4-0 in the first inning when Jammers starter Ramon Del Orbe walked four of the first six batters he faced. Batavia's first run scored on an RBI single from David Washington, Del Orbe's fourth walk made it 2-0, a balk forced home a third run and the last run of the inning scored on Matthew Young's RBI groundout.
A solo homer by Steven Ramos in the second made it 5-0 Batavia and another solo shot by Jesus Montero pushed the lead to 6-0 after the third inning.
Offensively, the Jammers (3-9) were held without a hit until Austin Nola's one-out single in the fourth.
The Muckdogs made it 7-0 in the sixth when a pitch thrown by Jamestown reliever Collin Cargill got past Jammers catcher Brian Dice.
Jamestown managed to plate its only run of the inning in the eighth inning. Kentrell DeWitt doubled to start the inning, moved to third on a ground out by Juancito Martinez and scored on Cameron Flynn's sacrifice fly.
Washington's RBI double for Batavia in the ninth closed out the scoring at 8-1.
Jammers hitters were limited to just four hits in the latest loss. Nola had two of them and DeWitt and Felix Munoz had one each. Del Orbe suffered the loss, allowing five runs on three hits in just two innings of work. He walked four and struck out just two.
The Jammers will try to break the seven-game slide Saturday when they travel to Batavia. They return home Sunday to entertain Auburn in a 4 p.m. contest.
