The town of Sugar Grove turned out on Saturday to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Sugar Grove Fire Department. Events were planned for the entire day. At 11 a.m. there was a parade through the borough. Hundreds of people turned out to line the parade route. Thank you to all those organizations who made floats or came out to take part in our wonderful parade. They were the AMVETS Honor Guard, Mayor Dutch Strand, Sparky the Fire Dog from the Kennedy Fire Dept., The American Legion Post 758, Numerous Antique cars and tractors, Lander Fire Dept., Busti Fire Dept., Wrightsville Fire Dept, Pleasant Fire Dept, The Sheriff's Dept., Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove Free Methodist Sunday School, EMHS Boys Basketball Team, EMHS Girls Cheerleaders, The Bucket, The Cub Scouts Pack 18, The Gourley Family, The Warren County Dairy Promotion, Stillwater Lodge #547, The Warren County Fair Queen wagon pulled by Tracey Jackson, The Eckstrom Family wagon and horses, Kolby McIntyre wagon and horses, Chandlers Valley Community Center, and Falconer Computers.

Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department held a Miss Sugar Grove Pageant last night to celebrate their 80th anniversary. Rachel Enos, daughter of Jason and Michelle Enos was crowned Miss Sugar Grove. First Runner Up was Julia Bauer, daughter of David and Laura Bauer and Kayla Porter, daughter of Ron and Lora Porter was awarded 2nd Runner Up. Each contestant was to answer an impromptu question, wear an evening gown and write an essay titled "What I Like About Living In A Small Town." Essay winner was Kayla Porter.

At noon the Fire hall held a Chicken BBQ along with an afternoon of carnival games and fun. During the afternoon the children did a bucket brigade and the Fire Departments held a competition in Tug-Of-War. Congratulations to the Lander Fire Department coming in first and showing their awesome power in the Tug-Of-War battle.

A highlight of the afternoon was the Mechanical Bull Riding Competition. Congratulations to winners Ashley Blair, female winner, and Ryan Hoffman, male winner for posting the longest ride. Both received $100.

The evening was filled with karaoke, a teen dance, and an adult dance.

Thank you to all at the Fire Department who worked many hours to organize the Jubilee for the community.

Summer Day Camp

The weekly themes for the Summer Day Camp at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church are as follows: For the week of 7/2/12 Moving and Growing Music Week, Week of 7/9/12 Final Frontier Space Week, Week of 7/16/12 Where the Wild Things are Nature Week, Week of 7/23/12 Train, Planes and Automobiles Week, Week of 7/30/12 Around the World in 80 Days World Culture Week, Week of 8/6/12 All God's Creatures Animal Week, Week of 8/13/12 Time Travelers History Week.

All children are welcome to stop in for more information.

Summer Reading

Program

The Sugar Grove Free Library will once again hold a summer program. This 4-week reading program is offered to all children from Kindergarten to High School Seniors. This year's theme "Go Green" will be incorporated into the books that are read. Participants will enjoy fun crafts, and explore the different ways to recycle, reuse, and repurpose items from around their house. Prizes will be given to the most books read as well as for the most interesting project that incorporates recycling to help the environment. The library will have two local young authors that have published and sold their books come to the library to explain how they got started. A pizza party is held on the last day. The fun begins Wednesday, June 13th at 6 p.m. and then continues on June 27th and July 11th. Class size is limited so register early. For more information stop in or call 489-7872

Creative Card Class

The Sugar Grove Free Library will hold their monthly Creative Card Class. Monday, July 9, class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Two Birthday cards will be created, one using the heat embossing technique and the other embellishments. A special "Christmas in July" class is also planned for Saturday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Two unique gift card holders, gift tags and a greeting card will be the projects; using punches, templates and paper folding techniques. Cost for the regular monthly class is $8 and for the "Christmas in July" class $16.00. Refreshments will be available for this special event. Whether a beginner or experienced card maker, make plans to join us for some creative fun. Barnyard Classic

The Annual Eisenhower Barnyard Classic will be held on June 30. In order to maintain the highest quality that everyone has come to expect each year from the classic only the first 100 teams to sign up will be accepted with a maximum of 16 teams in any one bracket. The tournament will be held outdoors at the Eisenhower High School and every effort will be made to hold the tournament in its entirety on Saturday only.

Registration begins on Saturday at 7:45 a.m. All teams must be registered 30 minutes prior to their first game. Games all will start at 9 a.m. There will also be a boys and girls 3-point contest and a free throw contest. More information can be found at barnyardclassic.com. All proceeds form the event benefit the Lady Knights Basketball Team.

Food distribution

The Second Harvest Food Pantry held their Mobile Food Pantry at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church on Saturday, June 23rd. Over 197 families were served with over 15,500 pounds of food in just 3 hours. Thank you to all the volunteers that make this happen every 6 weeks.

Nyla Luvison

5K Run/Walk

The 10th Annual Nyla Luvison 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, July 14th at 9:30 a.m. The starting point for the race will be the Sugar Grove Fire Hall on School Street. Runners please note this year's new start time 9:30 a.m. The Cost is $15 if pre-registered by 6-18-12 or $20 anytime after 6-18-12. Registration will be held from 8 a.m. 9:15 a.m. at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall. The Age Divisions for the race will be 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-65, and 66+. T-Shirts are guaranteed to first 150 entrants. Awards will be given for the First male and female overall, top 3 male and female finishers in each age group. The Children's Fun Run for all the little ones is free and will be held at the conclusion of the 5K. All little participants get something for their efforts. The proceeds from the event are equally divided between the Cancer Care Center at the Warren General Hospital and the Eisenhower High School Cross Country Teams. A BBQ Chicken Dinner will be available at the Fire Hall starting at 10:30 a.m.on race day at a cost of $8/meal. A race entry form can be found at
