Freddie’s holds off Accent Staffing in defensive battle

Freddie's improved to 4-3 on the season with an 11-6 victory over Accent Staffing in Over 30 Modified Softball League play Tuesday at Betts Park.

The game featured tremendous defense on both sides with Freddie's turning three double plays and Accent Staffing adding two of their own. Bob Boyer homered for the winners, Bill Rook crushed two doubles and Jamie Nielson, Doug Johnson, Kevin Bidwell and Matt Maze also doubled for the winners.

Mike Garrett, Quentin Miller and Jason Kuzminski all had two-baggers in the loss.

In other action, Crescent Beer only scored in two innings, but made them count with six runs in the fifth and eight runs in the sixth of a 14-3 victory over Blue Ribbon Rentals. Dan Farr, Rich DeSimone, Eric Rosequist, Troy Johnson and Don Cummings all had two hits apiece for the victors. Dave Stuart collected two hits in a losing cause for Blue Ribbon.

Buckhorn improved to 5-2 with a 13-10 victory over Kwik Fill. Erik Smith had a triple and a homer for Buckhorn with Rich Geer contributing a double. Mark Hoden went deep in the loss for Kwik Fill.

Tim Munksgard was 3-for-3 with a triple and two deep homers, helping Mangione Beverage to a 21-6 victory over Bullpen. Brad Johnson collected four hits and Mark Ordiway also went deep for the winners. Jared Paul was 2-for-3 in a losing effort.

Meridien Hardwood earned its second win of the year with an 11-3 victory over Club Buck. Jeff Young was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Neal Kent added three hits of his own in the victory. Barry Klenowski doubled and tripled, helping Meridien's cause.

Midtown Motors used a seven-run first inning to motor past American Legion, 18-5, in Tuesday's night game. Sam Zembardo homered and Ryan Johnson tripled for the winners who also got two doubles each from Jeremy Anthony and Dave Klemons.
