For the first time since its inception, Tidioute Community Charter School does not have David Craig at its helm as CEO.
In the wake of the decision not to renew Craig's contract, the Board of Trustees held a private meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday with the staff of the school.
"It's not public, it's not an advertised meeting, because no decisions will be made, no votes will be taken on anything," Board President Al Haney said. "Just some information exchange with the staff."
"It's scheduled to be an interchange," he said. "There's no presentation, per se."
Asked about the subject of the information to be exchanged, Haney said, "moving the school forward. Continuing."
Haney said he had been in contact with the school's solicitor, Butcher and Winkler of Titusville, and he was advised that the meeting did not have to be advertised and open for the stated purpose.
Only three trustees were present at 8:57 a.m. and Haney said he was not sure how many would attend.
The possibility of having a majority of the board presentation was not a concern for Haney. "I have checked with the solicitor and he has assured me that that is not a problem, again because no votes are taken, no decisions being made."
Prior to the start of the meeting, teachers speculated that most of the staff would be there.
Haney said only staff and board members would attend the meeting.
Asked about Craig's contract, Haney said, "His contract was not renewed. We cannot make any further comment."
On Saturday, the board of trustees sent an email to the Times Observer.
"The TCCS Board of Trustees, Faculty and Staff want to assure parents, students, and community members that we have met, and will continue to meet and work together to insure that both the short-term and long-term implementation goals for the continued operations and dedication to excellence at TCCS," according to the correspondence. "The school is open and will continue to grow. We look forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school August 21, 2012."
TCCS board meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the school.
The next scheduled meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11.
