Kathryn E. Martin age 75 of 22 East Main St. Mt. Jewett, Pa. died Thursday morning at UPMC Pres-byterian Hospital in Pitts-burgh following a short ill-ness. She was born January 13, 1937 in Kane the daughter of the late Charles and Helene (Varos) Kontes. She had resided in Mt. Jewett for most of her life after being raised in Ludlow. She was baptized at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in James-town, N.Y. She had been a member of the Mt. Jewett Borough Council.? Kathryn was a 1954 Gradu-ate of the Kane High School, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree from Edinboro University and with honors obtaining her Masters in Education from Clarion University. She had been employed by the Kane Area Middle School as a School Teacher for 30 years.
She is survived by 3 children: Terri Chapman (Andy) of Smethport, Charles Johnson (Jane) of Gainesville, VA, and Helene DuShaw (Jonathan) of Warren, 4 grandchildren: Nicholas and Alan Chap-man both of Smethport, Michael Dodge of Tucson, AZ, Mitchell Dodge of Warren, 5 great-grandchildren, 1 brother Thomas Kontes (Darien) of Ridgway, 1 sis-ter Penny A. Magnuson of Naples, FL, and 1 nephew Brian Kontes of Ridgway. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Ser-vices for Kathryn E. Martin will be held at Grace Ep-iscopal Church, Ridgway on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Offici-ating will be Rev. Mary Norton, Rector of Grace Ep-iscopal Church. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home, Ridgway on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Memorials if desired can be made to the Kane Area Middle School on Hemlock Ave. Kane, PA 16735 to honor her stu-dents whom she loved, or to the charity of the Donors choice.
