A Pittsfield woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Route 6 Monday afternoon.

According to state police, Wendy D. Borton, 54, was pronounced dead at UPMC Hamot by Erie County Coroner Lyle Cook.

Police said Borton was driving west on Route 6 in Pittsfield Township near Dalrymple Street at 12:22 p.m. Monday when she fell asleep at the wheel.

The vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic and struck an oncoming International Harvester 9000 Series truck driven by Daniel C. Rapp, 35, of Warren head on.

Both vehicles ended up on their roofs.

Rapp was taken to Warren General Hospital by a Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department ambulance. Police listed the extent of his injuries as moderate.

Borton was extricated from her vehicle and taken to Warren General Hospital, police said. From there she was flown by emergency helicopter to Hamot.

Police were assisted at the scene by Pittsfield Township, Garland volunteer firefighters, personnel from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and Warren County All-Hazards team.
