The Jamestown Jammers, in their 11th season as the Short Season A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, will kick off their 19th season in Jamestown on Monday. While the Major League Marlins underwent several changes with a name, logo, ballpark and players during the offseason, not much has changed with the New York-Penn Baseball League's Jammers.
One change is the addition of new Marlins manager Angel Espada. A season ago, Espada served as the Jammers' hitting coach. Espada will be looking to help the Jammers improve on a 2011 season that saw them finish 35-40 - ten games back of the Pinckney Division winning Auburn Doubledays.
The Jammers open their season against their division rival Mahoning Valley Monday at Diethrick Park in Jamestown. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. and a postgame fireworks display will be held to mark Opening Day.
According to Jammers Media Relations Manager Justin Michael, the team is scheduled to arrive in Jamestown at 4 p.m. Thursday and team will be issued equipment and gear and hold an afternoon workout at 1:30 p.m. Friday. At 6 p.m. Friday, the team will hold a dinner with the Jammers' Booster Club.
An evening practice will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, a morning practice will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday and the Opening Day game with the Scrappers is set for Monday evening.
