Adam Flagella, son of Vince and Dianna Flagella, of Warren, has been awarded a 75-percent scholarship to dance with the Jayson Michaels Energy Source July 16-20 in Wadsworth, Ohio, and at their National Invitational Aug. 6-11 in Springboro, Ohio.
Flagella was chosen as one of only two dancers to receive the 75-percent scholarship out of more than 1,200 dancers. It is the goal of Jayson Michaels and his Energy Source classes to provide inspiration, discipline and superior training in the fine art of dance.
The dance curriculum is very intensive as students will be studying ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, tap and musical theater. Mr. Michaels has trained several nationally known dancers, including singer Britney Spears.
Flagella will be going into ninth grade and has danced for seven years with Linda Dies Dance Express Company in Warren. He has won several competitions, including Star Quest, Star Bound, Fire and Ice, Rising Star, Sophisticated Productions and Cathy Roe's Ultimate Dance. He has been awarded six platinum awards for his solo performances. His interpretation of the Nicole Cunningham choreographed dance to the song "Belong" was the performance that caught Mr. Michaels' eye.
Locally, Flagella has performed in the Festival of the Arts, Cats, Snow Queen and Alice in Wonderland. In addition, he has performed at Disney in Orlando, Fla.
The family will be holding several fundraisers to help fund the cost of attending this dance opportunity. There will be a yard sale at Linda Dies Dance Studio from 8 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 16. In addition, a car wash is planned and anyone who would like to make a donation can contact Vince Flagella at 706-1592.
