Lloyd Alfred Van Tassel, Jr. "Fred", age 83, joined his Lord on May 29, 2012. Fred was born July 4, 1928 in Warren, Pennsylva-nia. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served from 1946-1950. He at-tended Penn State, and the University of Dayton where he earned a B.S. in Industri-al Engineering while work-ing at IBM full time, and caring for a family of five. He retired after 34 years.
He lived in Raleigh for 46 years where he was an active member of St. Philip Lutheran Church. In 1980, he was co-founder of what is now called "Pan-Lutheran Ministries, Families Together. Fred was a frequent volunteer for Habitat of Humanity, and Hospice. He was a loving husband, father, grandfa-ther, brother, uncle and neighbor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Alfred Van Tassel, Sr. and Lenora Elizabeth Van Tassel; sister, Joyce Hunt, and his brother Everell Van Tassel.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marianne, and their 3 chil-dren, Eric D. Van Tassel, MD and wife, Susan, of Asheville, daughter Anne Van Tassel Hall and hus-band, Rick, of Wake Forest, and Fred M. Van Tassel and his dear Lisa Mahoney, of Pineville.
Additionally, Fred is survived by his sister, Gretchen Van Tassel of Warren, Pa.; grandchildren David Van Tassel (Nicole), Emily and Laura Van Tassel, and Isaac and Seth Hall; and many dear nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Philip Lutheran Church in Raleigh, Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 1 p.m., family visi-tation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Philip Lutheran Church, 7304 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC 27615; Pan-Lutheran Min-istries Families Together, PO Box 14395, Raleigh, NC 27620; or CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 5779 Asheville, NC 28813.
