The Times Observer

The Learn-to-Fish day, a memorial program to W. Brent McKown (1935 - 2001), who was an avid fisherman all his life in Warren and Chautauqua counties. He also loved to help children learn to fish and enjoy the great outdoors. The program in his memory provides young people the opportunity to learn to fish and the necessary starting equipment.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon, with the help of area organizations, businesses and friends and family of Brent, 50 young people will meet at the Farnsworth Fish Hatchery and Trout Club, Cherry Grove Township, Warren County, to enjoy a morning of catching trout and learning the joys of fishing. When the fishing is over, participants receive the fishing equipment as a gift of the memorial program.

The program is open to boys and girls ages 2-15. Adult participation is required for each child. The program is free and pre-registration is required. The program will accept the first 50 to register by calling 489-3110. Donations to the program are needed annually and can be arranged by calling 489-3110.
