Dear sirs,
As a Warren native and a WAHS alumnus I find it troubling to read about all the problems within the Warren County school system.
Almost every day there is a new article about funding issues, budget cuts, faculty/staffing problems, etc.
However, I do not put all the fault on the administrators who may or may not have mismanaged assets over the years. The blame has to be shared by all in the community.
This problem has been on the horizon for decades and choosing to do nothing about it has put the county in the tough spot that it is in.
People have voted for new school boards over the years and the job of those elected has immediately become "how to pass off as many problems as possible to the next man" for as long as I can remember. Instead of making tough decisions and ultimately facing financial facts regarding the schools and their respective academic/athletic programs, the boards have simply passed the buck.
The lack of oversight is glaring and that falls upon everyone who has been a part of the problem and not offered any part of the solution. Myself included.
Now it may be too late and that is sad. Athletic programs are likely on the chopping block, classes will continue to get larger and consolidation will continue to hang over Warren County like a dark cloud, just as it has for 20 years.
Eventually someone is going to have to step up, be a leader and make a tough call that will ultimately ruffle the feathers of some for the good of all.
I personally am hoping that comes sooner rather than later. Warren County is too nice of a place to live/visit and has produced too many intelligent people to find itself ultimately defunct educationally.
Thank you,
Ryan Hanchett
