Dear editor,
On a personal note, I find that after 65 years of trying to stay in the upright position on this twirling, spinning rock, there appears to be more questions than answers to this whole experience called "LIFE." For we "the ol' baby boomers" life has changed drastically and not necessarily in the positive direction.
Our lives, as children, were jam packed full of hopes, high aspirations and colossal dreams. We quite possibly set our standards a mite lofty and out of reach.
Most of our parents or guardians were gainfully employed at jobs that allowed us to go on as the middle class. In the event they lost their job there was never any problem. Give it a week or two and they would have another, no problem. We were a nation on the move.
This country had moved forth, after "The Big One", by leaps and bounds in technology, manufacturing and employment. With a little effort, it was there for the taking. We could not fail. Things could only get better and brighter.
Fast forward our world situation 60 some years. The horizon we see appears a lot shakier and unstable. Things seem to have fallen apart faster than we could put our dream utopia together. Why did life turn and bite us in the rear when we least expected it. We had worked so hard and fast to make these utopian dreams happen, that we forgot the most important foundation this country was built on. It is not by mere stroke of luck that we have been the most blessed nation this world has ever seen. "One nation under God" is not just a catchy sounding phrase.
We had moved too fast, got too greedy and put God on the back burner in that grey area of neither right nor wrong, neither black nor white. We bent the rules to suit our needs.
What yesteryear was unthinkable and a mortal sin is today just status quo and everybody is doing "it", whatever "it" may be.
We have forgeotten God and His Son, Jesus Christ. We need to get back to black and white Christian ethics and living.
We are running away from God and looking for some other miracle fix for our situation. We should be running to him for salvation, love and the Big "FIX" for all humanity.
Sincerely,
Bill McElhatten, Warren
